Three people have died in two separate road crashes in Co Tipperary in the last 24 hours.

In the early hours of the morning, a motorist was killed in a collision involving two vehicles on the N24 Frank Drohan Road outside Clonmel.

Emergency services were alerted to the scene at around 1.12am.

The driver of one of the vehicles was killed in the crash. The condition of two other people who were travelling in the vehicles is unknown.

Meanwhile, two young men died following a multi-vehicle collision in the county yesterday evening.

The collision involving four vehicles took place on a local road at Killeen, Ballinunty, around 15km from Thurles, shortly before 6pm.

The two men, aged in their early 20s and late teens and in one of the cars, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two women, both aged in their 20s and travelling in a second car, were taken by ambulance to Tipperary University Hospital in Clonmel. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Six other individuals were medically assessed at the scene and did not require hospital treatment.

The road remains closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí have said that the local coroner has been notified and post-mortem examinations will be arranged. A family liaison officer has been appointed.
