Dozens of shots have been fired at Bondi Beach with multiple casualties reported, and police have warned people in the area to take shelter.

Just after 6.40pm, residents reported police cars streaming into the area and hundreds of people running away from the beach.

People in Bondi have reported hearing up to 50 gunshots and people on the ground near Campbell Parade.

A 30-year-old local, Harry Wilson, witnessed the shooting, telling this masthead he “saw at least 10 people on the ground and blood everywhere”.

A man, believed to be one of the shooters, has been shot by police, while a man believed to be a second shooter has been arrested.

Police have urged people to avoid the area and advised anyone at the scene to take shelter.

“Anyone at the scene should take shelter. Police are on scene and more information will be provided when it comes to hand,” NSW police said in an online post.

NSW Premier Chris Minns said the reports and images coming out of Bondi were deeply distressing.
