A large police response temporarily blocked off a residential road as a man was arrested on suspicion of having a knife. Merseyside Police was called to Whitney Road in Woolton at 6.20pm on Sunday, December 14 following reports that a man had a knife inside a property.
The force confirmed officers attended and arrested a 48-year-old man on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon. A Merseyside Police force incident manager told the ECHO “the incident has concluded” at around 7.30pm.
The ECHO understands the force is not looking for anyone else and the remaining officers will shortly leave the scene. A local source told the ECHO “police cars and vans blocked the road” around an area of greenery on the leafy south Liverpool road.

She said: “They all parked by the Cookhouse pub for a second, then all drove with sirens on and lights.
“I ran to see what was going on. They used their cars to block a good section of the road off.”
By the time the ECHO arrived at the scene the police cars had been parked and the road was open for both drivers and pedestrians.
The vehicles were parked close to a number of flats, which the ECHO understands are operated by housing association Liverpool Mutual Homes (LMH).
It is not known however if the incident happened inside one of the flats or a local house.
