One person dead after helicopter crash near Whanganui

A person has died after a helicopter crash near Whanganui at the weekend.

A police spokesperson said emergency services were alerted to a report of the crash near the Matahiwi Track about 8am on Saturday.

The Matahiwi Track is a farm track connecting the Whanganui River Rd and State Highway
4/Parapara Rd.

“The deceased was the sole occupant of the helicopter,” the spokesperson said.

“Police and the Transport Accident Investigation Commission are investigating, and the death will be referred to the coroner.”
