Police have laid charges in connection with the death of a 28-year-old man at a home north of Halifax earlier this week.

Mounties from the Halifax Regional Detachment, as well as the Emergency Health Services, were called to a home in Beaver Bank around 8 p.m. on Friday after reports of an assault, according to a Sunday police news release.

Officers found a man with life-threatening injuries when they arrived. First aid was performed on the victim but he died.

Police located a suspect nearby and shortly after arriving at the home on Beaver Bank Road, and arrested him. Evan Wheaton, 20, of Beaver Bank, was charged with second-degree murder, police said.

Wheaton is in custody and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Monday.

The two men were known to each other and the incident is not believed to be random, RCMP said.

The investigation is ongoing, but RCMP are asking anyone with surveillance video or dashcam footage of Beaver Bank Road from Friday evening to contact police at 902-490-5020, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
