“It looks as if the rivers have peaked and have started to drop off now, which is really good news,” Mr Goodman said.
“The worst of the rain has now passed. It’s not quite gone, it’s lingering, particularly in the south-east part of Cumbria, it might even spread a little bit back into the central parts of the county, but that’s a relatively short interval, and it completely clears through this evening.”
Cumbria Police has warned people not to attempt to drive through flood water.
There are six flood warnings in place across the county, including at Keswick campsite. A further 16 flood alerts are also in place.
