Gardaí said they continue to investigate all of the circumstances following the death of the man who was found unresponsive on Church Street in the village in the early hours of Wednesday morning, July 30 and later pronounced dead.

The man has been named locally as Declan Wall who is well-known in the community.

Kilgarvan show committee have offered their condolences to the his family including his wife, Collette and their son James. Collette is a member of the committee.

“We, the Kilgarvan Show Committee, wish to express our deepest sympathy to our dearest committee member Collette Wall and her son James on the sudden passing of her beloved husband, Declan,” the said.

“Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this heart-breaking time. As committee members, we work side by side, but we are much more than that — we are an extended family. Your loss is felt by us all, and we are here to support you in every way we can.”

Minister Michael Healy-Rae, who is from Kilgarvan, said the community is shocked by his sudden death.

“He was a very jovial man and very respected in the community along with his wife, Collette. They were a popular couple.”

“The suddenness of his death is an awful shock and everyone is upset. His family will have the full support of the community.”

Gardaí are now appealing for information in relation to the death.

In a statement they said at approximately 4am, Gardaí were notified of a male, aged in his 70s, that had been brought to University Hospital Kerry in Tralee having earlier been found unresponsive outside a premises on Church Street in Kilgarvan. He was subsequently pronounced deceased at the hospital.

A post-mortem examination has since been completed, the results of which are not being released for operational reasons.

A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been assigned to provide support and information to the deceased’s family.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have information in relation to this incident to contact them.

Any person, including road users and pedestrians, who were in the Church Street area between 12:00am (midnight) to 2am. is asked to contact investigating Gardaí.
