Police have increased patrols across the West Midlands in the wake of the attack at a Hanukkah event on Sydney’s Bondi Beach.

West Midlands Police said it had been speaking with Jewish community representatives around the region “to offer our support and reassurance at a deeply troubling time for them”.

“With many Hanukkah events taking place around the region over the coming days, we have increased our patrols in the communities most affected,” the force said. It has also offered safety advice to event organisers.

Two gunmen targeted Jewish people attending the event in Australia on Sunday, killing 15 people.
