The youth club was launched in 2016, but since the pandemic young people had been meeting in a gazebo in a park, while officials tried to find a permanent home.

The build, which was filmed in May, was completed in just 17 days and involved volunteers, businesses and staff from contractor Graham, as well as YOR4Good – a community grant scheme led by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

The DIY SOS team was also joined by stars from the TV show Gladiators to help with the build.

Phil Henderson, chairman of the YOR4Good panel, said the hub supported disadvantaged young people in the Beverley area.

He said: “This has created a vibrant, safe space for local young people to meet and benefit from the facilities available at the hub.

“We have already witnessed the positive impact this group has on young people’s lives.”

More than 430 young people have registered with the youth club since the hub opened in the autumn, the council said.
