Vancouver has been treated to stellar summer weather recently, but some changes may be on the way for the region.
Daily Hive chatted with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) meteorologist Matt Loney on how the August forecast for Metro Vancouver is shaping up, and whether you should be carrying an umbrella or plenty of sunblock as we stroll through the last full month of summer.
According to Loney, there could be more weather systems coming in early August.

“The first third of the month, up to Aug. 10, the region may see normal temperatures but above-average precipitation,” said Loney.
The daily average temperature for Vancouver in August is 18.2°C, with the average monthly rainfall for the region being 36.1 mm.
According to the latest ECCC forecast, temperatures will be slightly above the average, hovering between 21°C and 23°C throughout the long weekend and into the new month.
But you may want to keep your waterproof coats nearby as there’s a chance that rain will finally return.

While Metro Vancouver temperatures this week have soared, with inland areas feeling like 36°C due to humidex, and heat warnings in effect for the B.C. Interior, precipitation may be on the way.
ECCC is forecasting clouds and a 40 per cent chance of showers for Tuesday, Aug. 5, and a 60 per cent chance of showers on Wednesday, Aug. 6.
And despite ECCC’s previous long weekend forecast, which indicated rain for the long weekend, it seems like we might be spared this time around.
We’ve also put together a list of what’s open and closed for the holiday Monday, so make sure to plan ahead for the stat.
