A 15-year-old boy has appeared at Birmingham Crown Court charged with the murder of Leo Ross in Birmingham in January.
He was expected to enter a plea but did not – instead the judge scheduled a trial for February.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared via video link in a grey tracksuit.
At 12 years old, Leo Ross is thought to be the youngest victim of knife crime in the West Midlands.
