It was ultimately a difficult 2024/25 campaign for Tottenham Hotspur, but it ended on a positive note with them defeating Manchester United 1-0 to win the Europa League. Thomas Frank has replaced Ange Postecoglou, and with several squad changes already taking place, Florian Plettenberg now reports that Spurs are on the verge of signing Joao Palhinha.

And it appears their business isn’t yet done, with Florian Plettenberg reporting that Joao Palhinha is on the verge of joining Spurs on loan. Negotiations are said to be at an advanced stage, with only the final details left to finalise the deal. An agreement between both clubs is reportedly close, with Palhinha’s contract at Bayern still valid until 2028.

What Joao Palhinha Could Bring to Tottenham’s Midfield

Palhinha would be a great signing for Spurs. He’s an outstanding ball-winning midfielder who would offer much-needed protection to a defence that conceded heavily last season. He already knows the Premier League from his time at Fulham, where his tackling and physicality made him stand out.

He reads the game impressively, which often sees him break up an opposition attack either through a tackle or an interception. Palhinha often makes sure he’s available to receive the ball and keep the play ticking over. His positional awareness would be a huge asset to a Tottenham team that will be eager to improve drastically on their paltry 38 points last season. The Portuguese international has previously been described as a player who “leads through his attitude.” This leadership will be a huge boost for Thomas Frank’s team.
