Tributes are being paid to two young friends who tragically lost their life in a crash in Tipperary over the weekend ahead of their funerals.
Gardaà and members of the emergency services were called to the scene after a collision involving four vehicles on a local road at Killeen, Ballinunty shortly before 6pm on Saturday, December 13. Sadly, two friends in one of the cars – named locally as Gediminas ‘Ged’ Urbonas, aged 21, and David Lahart, aged 18 – were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two women aged in their 20s who were travelling in a second car were brought by ambulance to Tipperary University Hospital, Clonmel, for treatment. Six other people were medically assessed at the scene and did not require immediate hospital treatment. Ged will be deeply missed by his parents Jolanta and Saulius, sister Saulena, as well as his many extended family members and his wide circle of friends.

The young man will lay in repose at Kennedy’s Funeral Home in Thurles on Wednesday evening from 5pm to 7pm. His funeral mass will take place at Holycross Abbey on Thursday morning at 11.30am followed by a private cremation service in Kennedy’s Funeral Home.

She wrote: “We are extremely heartbroken and are mourning the loss of the most loving soul. My brother, may you get the best bed in heaven. We love you so much. These funds will be able to help us cover the funeral costs. More details will be provided soon for the wake. Rest in peace my beautiful brother, too young. Forever 21.”
David is dearly remembered by his parents Ashling and Paudie, siblings Megan, Rachel, Alex, Amber and Leah as well as his many extended family family members and huge circle of friends. David will be laid to rest on Wednesday morning at at St. Mary’s Church Killenaule followed by burial in Crosscannon Cemetery, the Irish Mirror reports.

Tributes have poured in for David, who was hailed as a “beautiful young man”, following his tragic passing. One mourner said: “Deepest sympathies to all who mourn the passing of such a beautiful young man. You are all in our thoughts and prayers rest in peace David. I hope you and Ged look after your loved ones from heaven.”
Another wrote: “Heartfelt condolences to David’s parents, siblings, extended family and friends on his tragic passing. Another man’s life taken on our roads. Wherever a beautiful soul has been there is a trail of beautiful memories.”
