“Thank you Perth, don’t come again.”
Those are the true, yet very emotional words of Bar Lafayette owner Brendon Sim who will be calling last drinks at the beloved CBD venue on Friday.
Mr Sim began the venture with three mates in 2012 as founding tenants of the Brookfield Place precinct, back when he worked in fashion and two of his collaborators boasted far more hospitality experience.
And for 13 years, the easy-on-the-eye watering hole has delivered class, culture, and award-winning cocktails for city dwellers with a finer palate.
Asked why now felt right to close the doors, the businessman suggested all good things must come to an end.
“The time has come. We’ve decided to not renew our lease,” he told PerthNow.

In 2018, Mr Sim became the sole director of Bar Lafayette, and launched sister bar W Churchill next door which offers a refined take on the pub dining experience.
The owner said his wife and business partner Jessie Tan has been a “massive part” of the bar’s journey since then.
Reflecting on his favourite memories at the whiskey-focused venue over the years, Mr Sim’s list of highlights are consistent with life’s greatest gifts.

“The people, our guests that have become our friends, the beautiful drinks, our amazing team — every single one over the years, starting a business with my friends with zero experience. The laughs, the cries, more laughs, working with my wife,” he said.
Mr Sim said Bar Lafayette’s closure had come as a shock to some, but that sinking feeling quickly turned to appreciation for what the bar had meant to them.
Because just like a Manhattan or Negroni, the end can be bitter sweet.
“The messages, calls and visits that we have received have been overwhelming, to be honest. Truly humbling,” he added.

Bar Lafayette has welcomed guests home for a drink throughout the week as festive celebrations ramp up in the city.
This Friday will be the venue’s final night of operations, hosting their Lafayette Era Party to commemorate the good times.
Though beyond that, it’s an opportunity for Mr Sim and his team to say thank you. But not goodbye.
“Before the lights go down, we invite our beloved regulars to join us for one final toast, celebrating the stories and the people who made it special,” Bar Lafayette’s website reads.
Dress for “cocktail hour”, and stay from 3pm until late.
Thereafter, Mr Sim invites all guests, both new and old, to W Churchill from January 7 to continue making memories.
