In a shocking MLB trade deadline blockbuster, the Minnesota Twins are trading star shortstop Carlos Correa to the Houston Astros.
According to Bobby Nightengale Jr., the Twins are paying $33 million of the approximately $104 million Correa is owed over the next three-plus seasons.
What are the Twins getting back? Career minor league lefty Matt Mikulski. The 26-year-old has has never reached higher than High-A ball and sports a career 6.46 ERA in the minors.
Matt Mikulski is a 26-year-old High-A reliever with a career 6.46 ERA who was signed two months ago.
Clearly included in the Carlos Correa “trade” so the #MNTwins technically got something.
It’s a pure salary dump. And the Twins eat ~$30 million of the $105 million he’s owed.

Correa played his first seven seasons in the MLB with Houston from 2015 to 2021 before joining Minnesota as a free agent on a three-year, $105 million contract. His Twins’ run now ends after four seasons, despite signing a six-year, $200 million contract in 2023.
