A 56-year-old woman has appeared before Dundalk District Court charged in connection with a fatal road traffic collision in Co. Louth last year.

Hotel waitress Martina Meehan is accused of dangerous driving causing the death of Arthur Daly (64) at the R166, Annagassan, Dunleer, on July 14, 2024.

Sgt Dave O’Leary said that he arrested the defendant by arrangement at 9.22am on December 18 at Dundalk Garda Station and charged her at 10.07am, adding that she made no reply after caution.

The DPP has directed a trial on indictment.

There was consent to conditional bail.

Solicitor Niall Lavery said that Ms Meehan is a waitress, earning €500 per-week and living temporarily in the Carrickdale Hotel, Dundalk. She is due to move to an address in Newry.

Judge Nicola Andrews remanded the accused on bail to Dundalk District Court on January 7 for a book of evidence, on her own bond of €200 with an independent surety of €2,000 cash lodged.

Ms Meehan must reside at the Carrickdale Hotel until moving to an address at Woodlands, Newry, Co. Down and be contactable by mobile phone.

A disclosure order was made and Judge Andrews said the defendant was excused from attending the next day if the book of evidence was not ready.

Legal aid was granted.
