A garda investigation has been launched after a man died in hospital shortly after he was found in Kilgarvan, Co Kerry.

The man in his 70s was brought to University Hospital Kerry in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

At around 4am, gardaí were informed that he had been found unresponsive outside a premises on Church Street in Kilgarvan.

He was pronounced dead in the hospital shortly after.

An autopsy has since been completed, with gardaí saying the results of which are not being released for operational reasons.

A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been assigned to provide support and information to the deceased’s family.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have information in relation to this incident to contact them.

A spokesperson said: “Any person, including road users and pedestrians, who were in the Church Street area between 12:00am (midnight) and 2:00am is asked to contact investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Killarney Garda Station 064 667 1160, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
