A fundraiser is underway to support a Letterkenny-based doctor whose father is battling cancer in Saudi Arabia.
Shima Alhindi from Sudan, who works in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Letterkenny University Hospital, escaped the war in her home country to Saudi Arabia.
After Dr Alhindi built a new life for herself in Ireland, tragedy struck again when her father, Dr. Elgasim Alhindi, was diagnosed with advanced laryngeal cancer.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help Dr Alhindi pay the mounting medical bills for her father’s surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy.
Orla Molloy, who set up the campaign, writes: “Dr. Shima is now fighting the hardest battle of her life: not as a doctor, but as a daughter trying to save her father’s life from thousands of miles away, with limited resources and mounting medical bills.”
