An unexpected evacuation took place at the busy Station Mall Friday night, prompting a swift response from local police and fire services

Staff and patrons of Station Mall were evacuated Friday evening for an unknown reason.

A staff member present during the evacuation said they and other people in the immediate area began to cough as they were told to leave and were not given time to properly close down the tills in the store.

The mall was supposed to be open until 9 p.m. under its holiday shopping hours.

Sault police and firefighters from the Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services were on scene.
