A man in Saskatoon is in hospital after being shot by police as officers executed a warrant late Friday night.

Members of the Saskatoon police Tactical Support Unit were carrying out a warrant in the 1500 block of Rayner Avenue — just north of Sutherland Park — when an officer fired their gun, police said in a Saturday news release.

Police say a 25-year-old man was wounded and taken to hospital. He is believed to be in stable condition, police said.

Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team has taken over the investigation. The civilian executive director has accepted carriage of the case.

SIRT says further details will be released as the investigation continues. Police advised residents to expect an increased police presence in the area.
