A teenager has been charged with throwing a firework into a highway following disorder in Birmingham city centre.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested and also charged with being in possession of a firework.

West Midlands Police said extra officers were despatched to the city centre following reports that a number of young people were involved in anti-social behaviour on Friday.

A 15-year-old boy who was arrested for setting off a firework in a public place has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
