PILOT POINT, Texas — Two bicyclists have died after being hit by a vehicle in North Texas Saturday, officials say.Â
Pilot Point police were called to respond to reports that two bicyclists had been hit by a vehicle around 8:19 a.m. Dec. 20 on FM 455 E just east of Fritcher Road, police said in a press release.Â
EMS from Pilot Point and the Celina Fire Department responded, and one bicyclist was taken to Methodist Celina Medical Center, where he later died. The other cyclist was taken by CareFlite to Medical City Plano, where he later died, officials say.Â
The victims were later identified as Andre Kocher and Scott Mages, according to the Frisco Triathlon Club. The two men were participating in a group ride when the crash occurred, the club said in a press release. Â
“During a group ride, we lost Andre and Scott—two men who were far more than fellow triathletes,” the release states. “They were friends, mentors, encouragers, and a constant presence on the road, in the swim lane, and within our community. They embodied the very spirit of why our club exists: connection, support, and a shared love of sport and life.”
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.Â
The Frisco Triathlon Club will host a Santa Fun Run to honor the lives of the cyclists, the release states. The run will take place around 8 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, at 9359 Legacy Drive, Suite #300A in Frisco.Â
“Our hearts are heavy, but our resolve to care for one another is strong,” the release states. “We hope this event serves as a moment of reflection, love, and togetherness during an incredibly difficult time.”
