‘We’ve been at the waterfront for three years, and then closed down in the winter, and this year we decided to add it to one of the sites that we have at the Lucky 13 on McKeown’

Ray Seguin has been operating a BeaverTail truck on the North Bay waterfront for the past few summers, but this winter, the owner of Lucky 13 convenience stores in North Bay is offering the tasty treats out of his Lucky 13 convenience store on McKeown Avenue located on the North end of North Bay.

If you are not familiar, the BeaverTail is a tasty pastry shaped in the form of a beaver’s tail that was created in the Nation’s Capital way back in 1978.

“We’ve been at the waterfront for three years, and then closed down in the winter, and this year we decided to add it to one of the sites that we have at the Lucky 13 on McKeown,” said Seguin.

“Basically, we turned the trailer into a ghost trailer, so it’s a ghost kitchen. You come inside Lucky 13, you order your BeaverTail, your Poutine, or whatever off the menu, and we go in the kitchen,  make it for you, bring it back, and package it.”

Seguin, who was the northeastern Ontario BeaverTail representative, has seen what he calls “the power of the BeaverTail.”

“I think it’s the experience,” he says about the tasty dessert.

“It’s like anything else, you want the experience, and everybody wants to try it, and once they’ve tried it, it’s an amazing product. So they want to come back for more. So, I was able to figure out how to bring it to North Bay, a small, smaller population, and hopefully, it brings those feelings that when you go to Ottawa on the Rideau Canal, or when you go somewhere in a theme park or whatever, that we can bring that to North Bay, mostly through the waterfront, but now through the Lucky 13 site, on McKeown.”

Seguin, who used to operate a Mr Sub business out of the McKeown Avenue Lucky 13, is thrilled to bring the additional business after navigating through construction challenges along McKeown Avenue for well over a year.

“McKeown is now being mostly reopened for the winter, and I am starting to rebuild the business,” said Seguin.

He hopes BeaverTails will bring more business to his convenience store and give customers a chance to enjoy the tasty dessert during the winter months.Â
