Scheduling the works during January, the quietest month for central city retail and traffic, helps minimise impacts on businesses, residents, and commuters.
The works will be completed in three stages and require temporary road closures to ensure the upgrades can be delivered safely, efficiently, and with reduced disruption later in the year.
This coordinated programme brings together multiple workstreams, including traffic signals, lighting upgrades, footpath and kerb improvements, tree pit upgrades, and Wellington Water reinstatements, to minimise disruption and avoid repeated closures throughout 2026.
Full maps, detour information, and ongoing updates are available on the Ghuznee Street upgrade project page.
