A man aged in his 60s has died following a collision in County Westmeath.

The two-car crash occurred on Royal Canal Way at Cushinstown, Killucan, shortly before 2:15pm yesterday afternoon.

Gardaí say that following the collision, one of the drivers involved became unwell and was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterwards.

No others involved in the collision required treatment.

The local coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

Gardaí have appealled to witnesses to the collision to come forward.

The collision also marks the second tragedy on the country’s roads in less than 24 hours.

A man aged in his 30s was also killed when his car entered a river in County Cork on Saturday morning.
