B.C. Ferries has cancelled many of Monday’s sailings between the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, along with some sailings to the Southern Gulf Islands, due to wind warnings.
Environment Canada says strong, potentially damaging winds and high waves are expected late Monday afternoon, with winds expected to rise to a force of 70 to 90 km/h.
“We know you have important places to be,” B.C. Ferries said in a statement on its website. “We are currently monitoring the weather conditions with the goal of getting you underway as soon as it’s safe to do so.”
However, if conditions do not improve, B.C. Ferries warns more sailings may be cancelled.
As of 10 a.m. PT, B.C. Ferries has cancelled all sailings between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen up until 7 p.m.
Trips between Tsawwassen and Duke Point have been cancelled up until the 8:15 p.m. sailing, and trips between Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay have been cancelled until 8:30 p.m.
Three sailings between Tsawwassen and the Southern Gulf Islands are also cancelled, including routes departing Mayne Island and Salt Spring Island.
Hullo Ferries, a passenger ferry service operating between Nanaimo and downtown Vancouver, has issued a warning that passengers should be aware of “possible sailing disruption due to adverse weather conditions” for their 11 a.m. sailing, but have yet to announce any cancellations as of 10 a.m.
