It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Bernadette (Hall) Schofield, at the age of 77.

Born in Sydney Mines to the late Tommy and RoseAnn (McBride) Hall, Bernadette was the oldest of twelve siblings.

Bernadette made the journey to the Annapolis Valley to pursue her education. It was there that she met and married her soulmate, Tubby. Together they returned to Sydney Mines, where they raised their family and shared 55 wonderful years of marriage.

Throughout her working life, Bernadette held many positions, but the role she was most proud of was becoming a PCW after years of volunteering at Miners Memorial Manor, followed by over 25 years as a dedicated employee. She truly loved her work and always went above and beyond for her residents, ensuring all of their needs were met—especially on Mother’s Day, when she took great pride in the annual Mother’s Day Tea.

During her time as a PCW, Bernadette formed many lasting friendships with coworkers and families who, in the last year and a half, also became her caregivers.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at Miners Memorial Manor for the compassion, kindness, and care you showed Bernadette during her time there. You are all truly special people.

Left to mourn her passing are her soulmate of 55 years, Tubby; her daughter, Joanne (Kenny); her cherished grandchildren, Mitchell and Kate; and her beloved dog, Cassie, whom she loved endlessly.

Bernadette was lovingly known as Nannie Bern to all the children in the family. Her yard was always filled with laughter, giggles, and happy memories. She also held a special place in her heart for TJ and Beth Hall, whom she loved as her own grandchildren.

She will be deeply missed by her siblings: Paddy Hall (Pamela), Rose “Rizzie” (Hall) Stewart (Corrie), Edna (Hall) MacDonald (Wayne), John Wilson, and Maureen Hall (Joe), whom she raised and loved as her own daughter, all of Sydney Mines; Gerald Hall of Saskatchewan; Theresa Ann (Dave) of Alberta; Catherine (Hall) MacArthur (John) of Prince Edward Island; and Andy McKeigan (Patrice). She is also remembered by her sisters-in-law: Darlene (Schofield) Forsythe (Dewey) of British Columbia; Linda (Schofield) Pietersma (Ralph); Bernice (Schofield) MacLaren (Doug); Marilyn (Schofield) Weir (Archie); Betty Schofield; and Marg (Schofield) Spencer (Darren), all of the Annapolis Valley.

Bernadette was predeceased by her parents, Tommy and RoseAnn Hall; her loving son, Brian; her sisters, Patrice and Claire Hall; her brothers, John Pius and Greg Hall; and her brother-in-law, Junior Schofield.

Following her wishes, cremation has taken place under the compassionate care and direction of Manny Jobes and the staff of Jobes Funeral Home. A service will be held at a later date in the New Year.

“I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always; as long as we are living, my Mommy and Nannie you’ll be.”
