A 31-year-old Winnipeg man is facing multiple charges in connection with sexual abuse images and videos that were uploaded to a social media platform.

The internet child exploitation unit executed a search warrant at a home in the 100 block of Nassau Street North on Friday, arresting the suspect and seizing several digital storage devices located by a sniffer dog, according to a Tuesday news release from Winnipeg police.

The devices have been submitted for further analysis.

The content was allegedly uploaded by the accused between Oct. 4, 2024 and Feb. 4 of this year, the release says.

The National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children traced an IP address to a home in Winnipeg. That information was passed on to the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Crime Centre.

Winnipeg police’s internet child exploitation unit took over the investigation in April and identified a suspect, the release says.

The accused is charged with making, possessing, distributing or accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material, as well as possessing and accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

He has been released with conditions that he stay off the internet and avoid contact with anyone under the age of 18.

The internet child exploitation unit continues to investigate.
