Toronto police identified the victim of a shooting Tuesday near the University of Toronto Scarborough campus (UTSC).
In a news release Wednesday, the Toronto Police Service said 20-year-old Shivank Avasthi is the city’s 41st homicide victim of the year.
Officers were called to the area of Highland Creek Trail and Old Kingston Road for unknown trouble at approximately 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Toronto police said Wednesday.
Upon arrival, Toronto police found a victim with a gunshot wound. Avasthi was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Wednesday’s release.
Toronto police said the suspect fled the area prior to police arrival. No suspect description has been released.
A person walking through the woods in the area discovered the victim on a paved trail and called 911, Duty Insp. Jeff Allington told reporters near the scene on Tuesday night.
