The fifth iteration of Kate Middleton’s “Together at Christmas” carol concert was filmed on December 5 at Westminster Abbey. It airs on Christmas Eve on ITV.Ahead of the broadcast, the Prince and Princess of Wales’ social media teased a piano performance by Kate and who many believe to be Princess Charlotte.
Kate Middleton is teasing what looks to be a pretty major Christmas surprise—and many royal fans think it involves her daughter Princess Charlotte.
On December 24, the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Instagram account teased a piano performance by simply posting a photo of a piano with a Christmas tree in the background. Then, in a subsequent video, two sets of hands can be seen preparing to play said piano—one is distinctly Kate’s, with her iconic sapphire and diamond ring on display, and the other appears to be a child’s.
“A special duet…💕,” the video was captioned.
Kate’s “Together at Christmas” carol concert was filmed at Westminster Abbey on December 5, but it airs on Christmas Eve on ITV. This performance will no doubt be included in the airing of the carol concert, and it wouldn’t be the first time the future queen got behind the piano to play a number. For the first iteration of “Together at Christmas” in 2021, Kate accompanied Tom Walker on the piano as he performed the poignant song “For Those Who Can’t Be Here,” which Walker previously described as a “once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
“I thought she absolutely smashed the performance,” he said, per Hello!. “It’s not easy to just jump behind a piano with a bunch of musicians you’ve never played with before and record live takes to camera, but she completely nailed it.”

Kate—forever a woman of many talents—played both the piano and flute as a child. Daniel Nicholls, her piano teacher from the ages of 11 to 13, previously told The Evening Standard, “She was absolutely lovely, a really delightful person to teach the piano.”
“I actually taught the whole family except Mike [Middleton]—Carole, Pippa, and James,” he added. “And again, they were just absolutely lovely people, normal piano pupils.”

Kate again performed behind the piano in 2023, when she appeared in a pre-recorded segment for the opening sequence of the Eurovision Song Contest. It is also known that Charlotte has taken up the piano herself—while speaking at the Royal Variety Performance in 2021, Kate spoke to Chinese pianist Lang Lang, who said, “Her Royal Highness talked about Charlotte’s piano playing. I’m sure she’s very good.”
“Her Royal Highness said to me that she said to Princess Charlotte, ‘Hey, look, if you practice a lot, you can be like him,’” he continued. “So I’m happy to be helpful a little bit. It’s really funny, I was like, ‘Wow, I’m sure she will do well at the piano.’ I think she is practicing.”

Charlotte, as well as her dad Prince William and brothers Prince George and Prince Louis, all attended the “Together at Christmas” carol concert at Westminster Abbey earlier this month. The mother and daughter bond was fully on display between Kate and Charlotte as they walked into the Abbey—perhaps a sign of a performance to come? After all, Charlotte has previously been described as her mother’s “mini-me,” with a source describing the 10-year-old Charlotte as “quite a strong character” and “almost wise beyond her years.”
