For the majority of us, Christmas Day is a time where we get to eat, drink, be merry and unwind with our family and loved ones after a long year of hard work and responsibilities.
For some, though, like those who work in the retail, hospitality or medical sector, the luxury of having the day off is certainly not a given. For Listowel native, Esther Groarke, in her role as a midwife in the National Maternity Hospital in Dublin, having Christmas Day off is something that has been the exception, rather than the norm.
