Meteorologist Holly O’Neill said with such clear weather it might even be possible to see Mr Claus tonight
With one more sleep until the big day, it is perfect weather tonight for the most famous resident of the North Pole.
Christmas Eve will be a largely bright day, with spells of sunshine developing for many, but it will feel chilly and highest daytime temperatures will be between 6 and 9 degrees.
Meteorologist Holly O’Neill told the Irish Independent that with such clear weather, it might even be possible to see Mr Claus tonight.
“These clear conditions will continue into tonight, with excellent flying conditions for Santa and his reindeer to deliver presents to all the children around Ireland.
“We’ve told Santa it’s going to be quite chilly tonight with lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees, but he’s reassured us that all the cookies and milk will help keep him warm.
“Under clear skies, it might be possible to catch a peek of Santa as he travels over us tonight, so keep an eye out!”
With the cold weather this evening, frost and icy patches will form on untreated surfaces.
It will be less cold and mostly frost-free along the east coast, though, with the lowest temperatures there of around 1 to 5 degrees in a mostly moderate east to northeast breeze.
Christmas Day will be a dry and bright day for many with sunny spells for most.
It may be cloudier at times near eastern and southern coasts.
It will again be chilly, with daytime highs of around 4 to 7 degrees and feeling colder, especially along eastern and southern coasts with an added wind chill effect.
It will be cold and mostly clear on Thursday night, with just patchy cloud, mainly in the east. There will be lowest temperatures of -3 to +2 degrees generally, with frost and icy patches forming on untreated surfaces, and some patches of mist and fog too.
Again, it will be less cold near the east coast with lowest temperatures ranging from 3 to 6 degrees. Friday, St. Stephen’s Day, will be another dry and bright day with spells of winter sunshine.
Cloudy periods may occur in the east and south, though.
The highest daytime temperatures will range between 4 to 8 degrees. Friday night will be dry and cold under variable cloud and clear spells.
There will be lowest temperatures of -1 to +4 degrees generally, but again, less cold near the east coast. Saturday will continue dry with a mix of cloud and spells of sunshine.
The highest temperatures during the daytime will be around 6 to 9 degrees.
There will be variable cloud and clear spells on Saturday night with lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees.
A similar day is expected on Sunday but winds will be lighter.
There will be daytime highs of 4 to 8 degrees.
Frost will then form on Sunday night, where skies remain clear, with lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees. Looking ahead, high pressure is set to continue to dominate into early next week, in the lead up to the New Year.
However, under clearer skies, frost will be more widespread, with the added hazard of fog and freezing fog too, which could be slow to clear by day.
