Here’s a list of what’s open and closed between Wednesday and Friday, as many people gather to celebrate Christmas and Boxing Day across the province.
Grocery and liquor shores
All Liquor Mart stores in Winnipeg will be open 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, according to the store’s website. All Brandon locations will be open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Hours vary for rural locations across the province, so check the company’s website to see when your local store is open.
All Liquor Mart stores in Manitoba will be closed on Christmas Day. They will reopen on Boxing Day, with the exception of the True North Square location in downtown Winnipeg, which will remain closed.
Most grocery stores will be closed on Christmas Day. Check your go-to grocery shop’s website or call ahead for operating hours on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.

CF Polo Park in Winnipeg will be open on Christmas Eve from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The mall will be closed on Christmas Day. It will open early on Boxing Day, with hours running from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Outlet Collection Winnipeg is open from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. It’s closed on Christmas Day, reopening on Boxing Day between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.
The St. Vital Centre will be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. It will be closed on Christmas Day. The mall will reopen to shoppers on Boxing Day between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.
The Grant Park Shopping Centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve. It will be closed on Christmas Day, reopening on Boxing Day between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Kildonan Place is open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve. It will be closed on Christmas Day. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Boxing Day.
The Garden City Shopping Centre will be open between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve. The mall will be closed on Christmas Day. It will reopen on Boxing Day at 8 a.m., with hours running until 6 p.m.
The Forks Market will be open from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m on Christmas Eve, according to its Instagram account. The market building will be open on Christmas Day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with some tenants closed for the day. Boxing Day hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Shoppers Mall in Brandon will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. It will be closed on Christmas Day. It reopens on Boxing Day from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Recreation and leisure
The City of Winnipeg says most arenas will be closed to skaters from Christmas Eve until Jan. 2. However, the Ab McDonald Arena will be open from Dec. 27 to 30 for casual ice rentals. The arena will host a free public skate on Dec. 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
All public pools in Winnipeg will close at 11:30 a.m. on Christmas Eve, except for the Seven Oaks Pool and Transcona Kinsmen Centennial Pool, which are closed on Thursday. Pools will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Public fitness centres are also closing at 11:30 a.m. on Christmas Eve. They will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
City libraries will be open from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Christmas Eve, except for the Harvey Smith and Osborne libraries, which are open from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. All libraries will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
The Assiniboine Park Zoo and The Leaf will be open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve. They will be closed on Christmas Day. They will be open for regular hours on Boxing Day.
FortWhyte Alive is open on Christmas Eve from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. It will be closed on Christmas Day.
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is open from 10:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve. It will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Manitoba Children’s Museum will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The museum will open from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Boxing Day.

The Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada is closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq will be open on Christmas Eve from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. It is closed on Christmas Day, reopening from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Boxing Day.
For some, it’s a family tradition to go to the movie theatre on Christmas Day. Many theatres will remain open over the holidays, so check your local cinema’s hours.
Transit
Winnipeg Transit services will run on a Sunday schedule on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Brandon Transit services will not run on Christmas Day.
Government services
Winnipeg city hall and administrative offices will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Winnipeg animal services will be open on Christmas Eve between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m, with adoptions running from noon until close. Animal services will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
If you plan to visit a cemetery over the holiday, the Brookside, Transcona, and St. Vital cemeteries are running extended hours from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Most federal, provincial and municipal government offices will be closed across the province on Thursday.
Across the country, Canada Post will not be collecting or delivering mail on Christmas Day or Boxing Day, according to the service’s website.
Recycling and garbage pickup
There will be no recycling or garbage collection on Christmas Day in Winnipeg, according to the city’s website.
The city is asking Winnipeggers whose garbage collection falls on the holiday to put their bins out a day later over the next two weeks. So, if your collection day usually falls on Thursday — Christmas Day — put your bins out on Friday, the city says.
The Brady Road landfill will be closed on Thursday. It will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Boxing Day on Friday. Brady 4R Winnipeg Depot is also closed on Christmas Day, opening again on Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Pacific 4R Winnipeg Depot and the Panet 4R Winnipeg Depot are both closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
