At approximately 7:33 a.m., Hamilton Police responded to a report of an assault at a residence on Princess Street. Upon arrival, officers located the suspect who subsequently barricaded himself inside the home. There is an unconfirmed allegation that a firearm may be involved; however, this has not been verified at this time.

Hamilton Police have deployed trained crisis negotiators who continue to maintain open and ongoing dialogue with the individual. These officers are specially trained to communicate in high-stress situations, and play a vital role in supporting individuals in crisis with the goal of achieving a peaceful outcome. Alongside negotiators, members of the Emergency Response Unit, K9 Unit, and uniform patrol officers remain on scene and are maintaining containment.

Princess Street is currently closed to ensure public safety and to provide space for police operations. Members of the public are asked to avoid the area. The Hamilton Police Service is committed to resolving this matter with care and compassion. Our priority is the safety of everyone involved, including the individual in crisis, responding officers, and the community.

Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
