A man wanted in connection with a fatal stabbing in Oshawa earlier this week has been arrested in Peterborough where he’s facing charges for another homicide.
In an update on Friday, Peterborough police said 44-year-old Michael Waterman was taken in custody and arrested at around 3 p.m. this afternoon.
Waterman had been found at a residence in the Dalhousie and Alymer streets area. When officers attended the scene and “called out” to Waterman, he exited the home and surrendered to police.
He was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with a homicide in Peterborough on Dec. 6.
Waterman was also wanted for second-degree murder in connection with a fatal stabbing in Oshawa on Tuesday.
Durham’s ninth homicide of the year happened near Park Road South and John Street at around 4:15 a.m.
Police told reporters that a passerby contacted emergency services after spotting a person on the street suffering from obvious signs of trauma.
A man was found with multiple stab wounds and was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The man was identified as 44-year-old Jeremy Russell.
Investigators arrested Nicholas Robbins, 33, of Oshawa, later that same day. He is charged with second-degree murder.
Waterman was identified as the second suspect and Durham police had been searching for him.
Police had said at the time that Russell, Robbins, and Waterman were all known to each other.
