Maureen Notley (Gunter) Obituary

It is with deep sadness and profound love that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; Maureen Notley (Gunter), who left this world peacefully in the early morning hours of December 25th at the Aberdeen Hospital. Though her passing was somewhat sudden, she was surrounded by love in her final moments, a reflection of the life she lived and the family she cherished so deeply. She was 89 years old and would have celebrated her 90th birthday this coming spring.

She was predeceased by her devoted husband, James Notley; her sisters, Monica and Barbara; and her beloved son-in-law, Bill (Paula). Their reunion brings comfort to those she leaves behind.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Paula (John) and Mike. She was a devoted grandmother to Emma (Jason) and Taylor (Daniel), and a treasured great-grandmother to Penelope, Elliot, and Brooklyn, each of whom brought her immeasurable happiness. She is also survived by her brother John, along with many family members in England who held a special place in her heart.

Maureen was born in Bournemouth, England and at one point worked as a Manager of a Singer Sewing Shop. She immigrated to Canada in 1968 where she filled her years enjoying her many passions including gardening, flowers and knitting. She was a Brown Owl for many years, and also an avid member of garden clubs and craft associations.

She was the heart of her family — steady, kind, and full of quiet strength. Her home was one of warmth, comfort, and unconditional love. She had a remarkable way of making everyone feel welcome, and her gentle presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Though we grieve her loss, we are forever grateful for the long life she lived, the memories she gave us, and the legacy of love she leaves behind. Her spirit lives on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and the countless friends she made along the way. Her final years were deeply enriched by the kindness, companionship, and constant presence of her dear friends and neighbours, whose care and friendship meant more than words could ever express.

She will be remembered always and missed beyond measure.

Visitation will take place from 11am-1pm on Tuesday December 30th at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville.
