Calgary police have identified the victim of an early Friday morning homicide as 16-year-old Carter Spivak-Villeneuve of Calgary.
The teen’s body was discovered after police were called out around 1:20 a.m. to the 300 block of Abergale Drive northeast for reports of a person in medical distress.
When officers arrived, the teen was declared deceased and members of the Calgary police homicide unit were called in to help investigate.
“This is a deeply troubling file given the victim’s age – this is a kid that should be getting his driver’s licence, learning to drive, and instead, we’re investigating his death – so it’s troubling and it’s saddening,” said Acting Staff Sgt. Clark Budd.
Members of the Calgary police canine unit are seen searching an area on Abergale Drive northeast where a man’s body was discovered early Friday morning.

Following the discovery of the teen’s body, police taped off two areas – one in front of a house and a second at a grove of trees located nearby.
Investigators have obtained some video, but are asking anyone with dashcam or CCTV video of the area between midnight and 1:30 a.m. – or anyone with information on who the teen was in contact with before his death or saw suspicious activity in the area – to give them a call.

“We are asking for people to essentially help us timeline him,” said Budd. “What was he into? Who was he talking to? Things like that. That’s what we’re looking for the communities to help us figure out and hopefully bring some closure to Carter’s family.”
“We’re looking for anything on Abergale Drive and Abbeydale Drive northeast – that kind of goes in a big circle,” said Budd. “Absolutely everything. That’s what we do with all of our investigations. We just flood it to try to get as much footage as possible. What’s relevant, what’s important, we don’t know until we get it.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234.
