A police officer was punched in the face during a drink-drive arrest in the early hours of Christmas Day.
A man, in his 30s, crashed his car into a telegraph pole on Brooke Road in Rotherham at about 04:30 GMT, South Yorkshire Police said.
While being taken to a police car by an officer, he became “increasingly uncooperative and violent”, the force said.
He was arrested on suspicion of driving over the alcohol limit and assaulting an emergency worker, and has since been bailed.
