Two Vancouver police officers fatally shot a man they say confronted them with a gun as they responded to a disturbance call Saturday night in east Vancouver.

Police responded just before midnight to the 13200 block of Northeast 46th St., in Vancouver’s North Image neighborhood, for a report that a man outside a home had pointed a gun at a woman inside and fired at least one round, according to a police statement.

The arriving officers said the man confronted them with a gun.

Two officers shot the man, who was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to Vancouver police.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased man or the involved officers.

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the man’s name and cause and manner of death.

Three Vancouver police officers, the two who fired their weapons and one witness, have been placed on critical incident leave, which is standard protocol, the agency said.

Footage from the officers’ body-worn and in-car cameras will be released later, according to the department.

The Washington State Office of Independent Investigations, which was notified of the shooting at 12:19 a.m. Sunday, is handling the shooting investigation. It will release the names of the involved officers at a later time.

Once the investigation is complete, the office will send its findings to the Clark County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.
