Police are appealing for information after a pedestrian was killed in a fatal hit-and-run.

A heavy emergency service presence has been in part of Medway for the majority of the day as a result of the crash.

It happened near the junction with Waterside Lane in Gillingham and caused in Pier Road being closed between The Strand and Lower Rainham Road. The route remains closed.

The pedestrian, a man, was treated at the scene but later declared dead.

Now, detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit have released images of two people they want to speak to in connection with their investigation.

Detective Inspector Zoe Wilczek said:‘While we appreciate the quality of these images isn’t crystal clear, we are still in the early stages of our investigation and thank everyone who has provided images and witness accounts so far.

“We urge anyone with relevant information regarding the incident or these men to get in touch with us.”

Officers patrolled the area in Eastcourt Lane and Grange Road, where officers have been seen searching with a dog. A police helicopter was also spotted nearby.

One woman, who was in the area just after 1pm, said she heard what she thought were gunshots.

However, KentOnline understands Kent Police doesn’t believe the suspects were armed.

A reporter at the scene said: “All the roads in the area are cordoned off. In Eastcourt Lane, I’ve seen two police officers and a police dog searching in a bush.

“There was also a police officer looking at the road in Yokosuka Way.”
