The London Fire Department says two families are displaced after their homes were destroyed in a fire Sunday night.
Emergency crews were called at around 10:40 p.m. to two burning units of a townhouse at 575 Wilkins St., in the city’s south end. They arrived at the scene within four minutes of the initial call, said platoon chief Gary Mosburger, and found the occupants already out of the building.
“London police as well as EMS were on the scene to assist with patient care. There were no injuries to report for either civilians or firefighters involved,” he said.
It’s believed a family of six lived in one of the units, and at least two people lived in the second unit, said Mosburger. Police and the Red Cross have assisted in finding them temporary places to stay.
One cat was rescued and resuscitated back to life before being returned to its owner, he added.
By Monday morning, the cause of the fire was deemed as undetermined, with damages estimated at approximately $600,000.
