A Scarborough woman who was rescued from a house fire alongside her husband last week has died in hospital, according to her nephew.
Rebecca and Amadeo Sosa were taken to hospital in critical condition after a fire broke out at their home near Sheppard Avenue E. and Washburn Way early Tuesday morning, according to Toronto Fire.
The couple’s nephew, Paulo Sosa, told CBC Toronto on Monday that his aunt Rebecca died on Sunday as a result of her injuries. He said his uncle Amadeo was still in hospital.
Toronto Fire has not confirmed the death. A spokesperson said in an email they had not received updates since the couple was admitted to hospital and they were unable to comment.
A GoFundMe campaign launched by a family member for the couple and their three daughters following the fire had accumulated over $33,000 in donations as of Monday afternoon.
The family’s dog Lotto has also been missing since the day of the fire, according to the GoFundMe.
