A number of county roads are closed Tuesday as the region endures another bout of high winds and dangerous snow squalls.
Environment Canada has issued an orange band warning for snow squalls in the London, Parkhill and Eastern Middlesex County areas, as well as for Goderich, Bluewater and Southern Huron County. As part of the agency’s new colour-coded system, orange indicates severe weather is likely to cause significant damage, disruption or health impacts.
“Dangerous snow squalls and significant blowing snow continue,” reads the warning.
Near zero visibility will continue into the afternoon, with local snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 centimetres. Lake effect snow off Lake Huron is then expected to lift north of the area.
“Widespread blowing snow resulting in near zero visibility remains the primary concern as northwesterly wind gusts of 50 to 70 kilometres per hour are expected,” said Environment Canada.
