Police are searching for two suspect vehicles after a female pedestrian was struck and killed near Yonge and Eglinton.
An elderly woman is dead after she was struck by two vehicles in a hit-and-run in midtown, Toronto police say.
The woman was hit near Eglinton Avenue East and Dunfield Road, near Yonge Street, at around 7:15 a.m.
Speaking to reporters at the scene on Wednesday morning, Duty Inspector Scott Bradbury said the woman had just finished grocery shopping and was crossing the street when she was struck by one vehicle heading west and another vehicle heading east.
The woman, who is believed to be in her 80s, was pronounced dead shortly after the collision.
Neither vehicle remained at the scene, Bradbury said.
The first vehicle has been described as a light-coloured or white Hyundai SUV with front-end damage. The driver of that vehicle was last seen heading west.
Police were unable to provide any information about the second vehicle involved.
“Investigators and special constables are actively investigating, and we hope to have updated information on that soon,” Bradbury added.
Eglinton Avenue is currently closed between Yonge and Lilian streets for the investigation.
