The remains of an Ottawa man have been found on a dirt road in a township east of North Bay, Ontario Provincial Police said Tuesday.
Members of the North Bay OPP Detachment responded Sunday morning to reports of human remains on North River Road in Head, Clara and Maria Township.
North River Road is an unpaved road south of Highway 17, about 30 kilometres east of Mattawa. It branches off Brent Road, which leads to Cedar Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park.
OPP identified the dead person as Hakeem Muhikira, 26, of Ottawa.
“Preliminary information suggests that there are no signs of a broader threat,” OPP said in an emailed statement, adding that further updates would be provided as new information becomes available.
OPP would not say if Muhikira had been reported missing.
“This is an ongoing CIB [criminal investigation branch] investigation, I can tell you that foul play has not been ruled out,” Const. Kyler Brouwer told CBC in an email.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact investigators with North Bay OPP.
