A number of roads remain closed Wednesday as snow squalls persist throughout Huron, South Bruce and Grey Bruce counties.

Environment Canada has issued an orange band warning for snow squalls across Goderich, Port Elgin and Owen Sound. As part of the agency’s new colour-coded system, orange indicates severe weather is likely to cause significant damage, disruption or health impacts.

The warning is calling for near zero visibility with up to 40 centimetres of snow continuing through the day and possibly into Thursday.

“Snow squalls are expected to remain fairly stationary,” said Environment Canada, “bringing potential for significant accumulating snow. Winds have eased off and blowing snow is less of a concern.”

⚠️ West Region Road Closures ⚠️ Multiple road closures remain in effect as the winter storm system persists in parts of West Region, resulting in hazardous road conditions.
