Police are investigating after finding a 10-year-old child dead inside a Barrie home on Wednesday.

Officers say they responded to a wellness check around 3 p.m. at a residence on Bayview Drive near Little Avenue.

In a news release Thursday, police say they also found the child’s mother in the home. The 47-year-old woman was taken to hospital, police say.

Investigators say there is no risk to public safety.
