Hundreds braved the blistering cold to usher in 2026 in downtown Sault Ste. Marie
2026 rang in with a bang.
Despite the blistering cold, hundreds gathered in the Downtown Plaza tonight to say goodbye to 2025 and usher in the new year.
Community members enjoyed ice skating, live music, and huddled around campfire warming stations sipping beverages both warm and cold ahead of the second annual New Year’s puck drop — our city’s unique take on the New Year’s ball drop seen in other communities.
This year, fireworks accompanied the puck as the timer ticked down — both at the 8 p.m. puck drop for children and the midnight drop to officially celebrate the beginning of 2026.
