Jack Stockfish and Larry Keenan were part of the first U.S. College team to participate in the high-profile European hockey tournament.
North Bay’s Jack Stockfish and Barrie’s Larry Keenan are coming home with silver medals from the highly coveted Spengler Cup hockey tournament, which took place in Davos, Switzerland, over the holidays.Â
Stockfish and Keenan were selected to play on the U.S. College Selects squad, which made its debut in the holiday tourney. Â
The U.S. College Selects made it to the tournament final, but were defeated by Swiss host HC Davos 6-3 in the final match on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2025.
This marked the first time in the tournament’s 102-year history that a team composed entirely of NCAA Division I college hockey players participated in the event, and their second-place finish was considered an impressive result for the team, which included six Canadians.Â
Hockey Canada, which sends an all-star squad of its own annually, fell short in the quarterfinals to a team from Prague.Â
