A 32-year-old woman from Scarborough is dead after a collision on Highway 401 near Dixie Road Thursday in Mississauga, Ont., provincial police say.
Officers responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on the eastbound collectors’ lanes at approximately 6:10 a.m., Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told CBC News.
A woman had just exited a vehicle on the highway and was “struck almost immediately” by a passing vehicle, Schmidt said. The motorist involved failed to remain on scene.
Provincial police do not have a description of the suspect vehicle, Schmidt said. They are asking anyone with information to contact them.
There are no other reported injuries, OPP and Peel paramedics say.
All eastbound collectors’ lanes were closed as a result of the crash, but reopened around 11:30 a.m., police said on social media.
The cause of the crash remains unclear. Provincial police say the investigation is ongoing.
An OPP news release Thursday previously said the victim was from Ottawa.
